Another shot from the Retina IIIS that kind of took my breath away with the sharpness. This is on the fringe of the Coast Guard base out on Sandy Hook, the working remnants of Fort Hancock. Shot on Eastman 5222 and developed in divided D-76.

This started as a formal exercise to explore if I could create shapes for Polaroid frames that didn’t exist in the actual film, based on some manipulation I had done for one frame in a previous Polaroid Week project. I was going to skip this season’s Polaroid Week, but came up with this at the last moment, about five days before the week started. As I worked on it, it became clear that the shapes and colors could serve as a metaphor for some pressing issues in our society, and the intention behind the project shifted, even if the manifestation didn’t. Ultimately, I think this is one of my favorite Polaroid Week projects so far. PW pushes me to do something other than what I normally do with my photography, and I find it really rewarding.
