#TiMidity++
There are those this day among them, who, though intelligent and courageous enough in offering battle to the Greenland or Right whale, would perhaps- either from professional inexperience, or incompetency, or timidity, decline a contest with the Sperm Whale; at any rate, there are plenty of...

Sure, Schumer is a symptom of the timidity that has taken hold of the party, not the cause.

On the other hand he’s claiming he personally orchestrated the election victories which is a lot more like “forward facing political leader” than anything else.

And sometimes you do need to treat a symptom.
There's just this massive bluesky misunderstanding of a caucus leader's job - which is not to be a forward facing political leader, it's why they all fall in line to presidents.

It's basically to represent the median position in the caucus and protect vulnerable members. That's the job.
The problem with this is also the person who takes it makes everyone go "wait who" because it's a person who's mostly worked inter-caucus disputes for years and has the trust of the members.

The reality is if its not Schumer it's probably Schatz right now.

The Democratic center-right has used this trope for 40 years to move the party farther and farther from its FDR ideals. "The public will vote you out unless you act like Republicans."

This is not the time for timidity. Nor 75-year-old thinking (neither Schumer's nor Jeffries').

I was rusted on Labour for a long time till I switched to Green about 2000
But Labs seem to have decided that we have all the levers and systems we need, as long as they are competently handled
Those times are gone
Covid response seems to have scared them into timidity instead of emboldening them

People are coming for Hakeem because he is projecting the same timidity he always does. Two years of more "looking forward and not looking back" will put the Republicans right back in the mix. He is not showing the ability to read the room and lead boldly. His skin color is irrelevant and should be.

... leadership but without Schumer timidity, then hey, I'm all for it!

(I do have my doubts that Schumer has it in him, given his run the last two years, but happy to be surprised!)

Okay, that is an obviously stupid / uninformed take.

Reality is though that current Dem congressional leadership are not going to lean in hard on eg Impeachments of Cabinet members.

And that kind of timidity is going to be bullshit - both if Dems want to win (big) again in '28, and for democracy!

Racism has everything to do with it. You all are showing your whole asses. Timidity? Your MAGA relatives gave him no power. Yet, despite that he led THREE discharge petitions, which is very hard as the Minority Leader.
Racism has nothing to do with it
He’s just shown disqualifying lack of judgement and timidity not calling out genocide among other things

In 2022, I wrote two blog posts relevant to this moment. One was about the party leadership's shocking non-response to the loss of Roe v Wade and what it says about them and centrism in general. I think that scandal was the last straw for a LOT of ordinary Democratic voters.
Timidity & Perfidy
The Supreme Court’s recent murder of Roe v. Wade re-revealed two ugly truths that most Democrats have long chosen to ignore: First, that the...

There is no possible rational justification for the bizarre and inexplicable timidity about wanting Trump out of office versus, say, Pete Hegseth, except that liberals just can't help but treating Trump as if the presidency gives him some kind of royal privilege.

We must acknowledge the riptide of Israel’s monstrous Genocide ongoing with Our complicity
Biden’s bear hug of Netanyahu cost us 24 handing trump an unearned win
Timidity in speaking Truth continues to derail real progress
This has to change and voters want Dems to lead
Read the room please

I am tired of hearing that this is a centrist district, as though that excuses political timidity or abandoning progressive priorities. You did not win solely because of centrists. Progressive voters helped elect you, too, and we deserve representation, not excuses.

This is part of the problem also corporate and billionaires pouring money to maintain the Democratic Party’s timidity. Now is the time for bold action.

Congrats on your #bluewave Americans, now how about a massive serving of accountability to keep the surge going. No time for timidity or business as usual.

Muscle Dems prioritize the fight.

Trophy Dems count the wins.

The former resent Garland's timidity. The latter resent his circumstances.

“They will argue for caution, where they chose ambition. They will urge timidity in a time of economic and moral crisis.”
Last night’s victories in the South, in the Sunbelt and across the country transformed what we imagine for America. Here are my thoughts this morning.

Giving serious thought to ending my membership.

The recent decisions about energy, gas power stations and data centres when added to the timidity on action on progressing independence, feels like the last straw for me

The challenge to that is the timidity of the SNP leadership and the paucity of alternative vehicles.

Bedroom Strengths vs Weaknesses?

Carver: Athleticism / Insatiability
Rowan: Attentiveness / Lack of Assertiveness
Colby: Awareness / Lack of Spontaneity
Milo: Curiosity / Timidity
What is your OC's greatest strength in the bedroom and their greatest weakness? (Example: Excellent at fingering but terrible stroke game)

If there’s to be accountability priority must be given to investigation and prosecution - no more Merrick Garland timidity and reliance on norms of conduct

She has numerous examples from fellow Republicans on how to break with Trump, Lisa Murkowski to name one. Her timidity in the face of obvious moral tests is a running joke - this reaction from her is a mix of denial and self-pity.

Look at AES, Ossof, Peggy Flanagan, Talarico, and especially AOC (who i think was the unquestionable forerunner in this). All clearly very bright and well-informed, but for the most part they seem free from focus-grouped timidity and polish. They're unafraid to stake a bold claim and defend it.
