I'd use whatever works best with your sentiment scoring dictionary. BOW from tidytext may work fine if you're using one of their sentiment dictionaries. spaCy may not add value unless you're doing something more sophisticated like Parts of Speech (POS) tagging or word dependencies or deep learning.

1/ Deliberate but blunt. It's an explicit str_length(word) > 2 line in our cleaning step, not a tokenizer default (tidytext keeps short words). But it's one global rule across all 7 languages, not a per-language call. So "re" was collateral, not considered.

3. To create the original figure, I used the #rstats {tidytext} package to extract and count all the words in Man the Hunter. This package includes a list of stop words, which includes "man" & "men", but not "woman" or "women", so when I removed all stop words, I inadvertently removed "man" & "men".

For #TidyTuesday Week 2 (posit::conf talks) I chose to make word clouds from presentation abstracts for the 2023 and 2024 conferences. To do so, I primarily relied on the Tidytext & Wordcloud2 packages.
