TIGANA is having quite the 35th birthday. Here’s the dramatic cover of the edition in Taiwan.

Doorbell just rang and this has arrived. The new TIGANA in Canada. Lisa Jager’s gorgeous cover. The book is just beautiful.

35 years. Very hard to believe.

Tony Geer of Conversation Tree Press has now revealed that French artist Julien Delval has done the artwork for their TIGANA. We discussed, I entirely approved (suggested him!) after working with Julien already on FIONAVAR for Grim Oak Press. Tony is preparing to release really gorgeous books.

I remain touched and honoured Apriori in Ukraine continues to steadily publish my work. And with such striking covers. (Interior art, too.) I do suspect TIGANA may resonate there. (This will be released in August.)

Looks like TIGANA is on sale as an ebook in the US right now, for $3.

Remember the name.

Some of you know by now how much I like dealing with my foreign publishers, meeting them, seeing their covers and editions. And this feeling is enhanced right now after I've just returned from a tour in France. Now, here, being released in June, is Taiwan's very striking cover for TIGANA.

I guess the first time I read Tigana by @guygavrielkay.bsky.social I had not yet read Night Battles by Carlo Ginzburg. What a delight to re-discover.

Discussing bad book covers with a writer friend, sent one of my own bad ones, to their horror. Offered this from Taiwan, which I love, as a palate cleanser. I think Taiwanese readers would have an affinity for Tigana. Many countries seem to. Ukraine most recently.

The new Canadian cover/reprint of TIGANA is now available up here. I have truly liked all their covers, over the 35 years since the book came out (!). This one I find gorgeous and evocative. Lisa Jager does lovely, much-appreciated work for my books (just did Written on the Dark too).

Conversation Tree Press has just done a full reveal of their deluxe edition of TIGANA. If you read the text you’ll see what attention to detail they are bringing. The white cover for the ‘Lettered Edition’ shows a deep, subtle connection to the book.

Ok, everyone, what book is sacred enough to you to get sworn in on?
Strange takes on Mayor Zamdani swearing his oath on the Qu’ran. It has nothing to do with church & state. The point of the oath is for the person swearing in to do so upon some text that is sacred TO THEM. Some Presidents swore in w/o any book. John Quincy Adams was sworn on a law book. His choice.

There was a time, not all that long ago, when I really liked Tony Geer, who owns and runs Conversation Tree Press. That was then, now is his having sent me nearly a thousand sheets of his (drop-dead gorgeous) forthcoming special edition of TIGANA to sign. I’ll need lots of good jazz. And pens.

Might be of interest, on Conversation Tree’s TIGANA. Pre-orders begin on August 1. These are going to be gorgeous books, including typeface and paper. Done in 2 volumes, as many of my European editions were, but released at same time, with a slipcase.

I’m told that for the next few days in the U.S. *Tigana* is on sale at all the usual ebook retailers for $1.99. Here’s the graphic the publishers sent me to share.

Enjoy.

I concede that on one level the ‘Gulf of America’ idiocy is just a toddler screaming in his sandbox. On another, I wrote a novel 35 years ago, TIGANA, about how tyrants erase (or try to) names, history, art to consolidate their control of people.

So, it matters. Symbols do. So does acquiescence.

The fall book fair in Kyiv, due to happen this weekend, has been cancelled due to danger from Russian attacks — too many people gathered in one place. I had recorded a video at the request of my Ukrainian publishers, Apriori, as TIGANA is (still) being published there this week, bless them all.
