A blue-tongued skink (genus Tiliqua) - a type of lizard known for its distinctive blue tongue.

These lizards are native to Australia and parts of New Guinea. Their blue tongues are primarily used as a defense mechanism to startle and ward off predators.

I had a visitor this afternoon!
It's a Tiliqua rugosa which has a bunch of common names including stumpy lizard, sleepy lizard, shingleback skink, bobtail. Whatever you call them, they are always nice to see.

What if a pinecone had a personality?
The Shingleback Skink (Tiliqua rugosa), or Sleepy Lizard, lives throughout southern & eastern Australia. These skinks have fascinating social lives - they are typically monogamous & offspring will stay with parents for several months.

A lizard train!
Shingleback lizards (Tiliqua rugosa) have a few colloquial names such as sleepy lizards, stumpy lizards or bobtails. Males prove themselves to females by following them around for a couple of weeks before mating. I hope this guy makes the grade 😄
