Thanks. In southern/eastern Australia you get the eastern blue-tongued skink (Tiliqua s. scincoides). I think this is the northern blue-tongued skink (Tiliqua s. intermedia) subspecies. As I wasn't sure, I referred to it as 'just' a common blue-tongued skink, but didn't remember to expand the range.

We have a resident Blue Tongue Lizard (Tiliqua scincoides) in our yard. They are an iconic Australian native species & almost completely harmless but great to eat slugs & snails. It's just emerging from It's winter brumation so is sluggish. The tongue photo is a download to show why it's named thus.

I had a visitor this afternoon!
It's a Tiliqua rugosa which has a bunch of common names including stumpy lizard, sleepy lizard, shingleback skink, bobtail. Whatever you call them, they are always nice to see.

Blue-tongued Lizard aka Blue-tongued Skink in our garden just now - western Brisbane.
He is about 40cm long.
They are fairly common here but are very vulnerable to cats, dogs.
Unfortunately we also see a few squashed on our road too.
