The historic legislation is designed to: • Create a Smoke-Free Generation: By making it illegal to ever sell tobacco to anyone born on or after 1 January 2009, we are ensuring today's children never face the cycle of addiction. Crack Down on Youth Vaping: New powers will allow the government to regulate vape flavours, packaging, and displays to stop them from being marketed to children. Protect Public Spaces: The Bill will extend smoke-free laws to specific outdoor areas like playgrounds and outside schools and hospitals. The impact is massive. Smoking remains the UK's number one preventable cause of death, claiming around 80,000 lives every year. MPs were voting on the p[principle of the Bill, which includes a phased ban on the sale of tobacco so that no one born after Jan 2009 will ever be able to legally buy tobacco in this country.
