It’s always a factor , that’s why Tory narrative is invariably tough on non- pensioner welfare claimants: they generally don’t vote Tory (or vote at all) so it’s not going to cost them votes

"The public had a referendum on proportional representation back in 2011. It rejected it."
As he well knows, the 2011 vote was on AV which can be less proportional than FPTP.

Look at Brexit. UKIP barely won seats under FPTP. It didn't need to.
By threatening to split the conservative vote in marginal seats, it gained enormous leverage over the Tory Party. That pressure helped produce the referendum.
Without FPTP, Brexit would probably never have happened.

About 12m voted Tory in 2015.
The lowest vote the Tories got before 2024 was about 10m.
In 2024 it was 6.6m.
I think it's perfectly legitimate to call those voters who didn't vote Tory in 2024 Tory voters.
Because historical electoral net figures show it.

The lowest vote the Tories got before 2024 was about 10m.

Okay, so your number has halved. But more seriously, it doesn't work to analyse people just as parts of blocks (like "Tory voters"). Some people consistently vote one way, many don't. You can't say the behaviour of one identifiable group tells you only about the party they voted for last time.

I did not make government policy from 1969 (the year that I first had a vote), have never voted Tory & yes, I benefited from free HE & lower house prices but I am not responsible for them. I admit that I was naive & until Thatcher thought governments could be trusted. I am truly sorry
