End of month update on the #PilcrowChallenge (where you have to write at least one new paragraph every day). I wrote 27 of the 30 days in September (ninety percent!) and kept writing after that first paragraph almost every day, averaging 426 words a day overall.

Thanks @trackbear.app ! Without that habit tracker, I definitely wouldn't have written 3k words in the last couple of weeks!

Little and often seems to work best for me, especially around parenting.

Intermittent #PilcrowChallenge Update: September is finished, and ahead of schedule!

The last sentence that got me to my word count goal for the month? “That is a neat trick.”

I've been using TrackBear as a means of gently bullying myself into writing every day.

It takes a while to develop a proper habit, so I'll take the external motivation for now.

The word count tracker that I'm using is trackbear.app, by the way. It's free and easily customizable and doesn't use gen-AI. I haven't been using it long (and am not sponsored LOL) but I'm really enjoying the ease of it.

Anywho, back to words and writing for real this time.

I've known a few people who love TrackBear! So glad it's working well for you. I do think switching to Scrivener helped me develop a more consistent writing practice. The way it organizes scenes/chapters is a lot more streamlined for me than other options.

TrackBear (trackbear.app) has been so far a game changer for me as far a consistency of writing. It has been helpful to lay out my goals and what I need to do to reach them.
What is something that helps you be consistent with your writing? What encourages you to reach your goals?

I'm retrying TrackBear (didn't really quit, just stopped utilizing it) and holy shit
The amount of words that I wrote between 2025 and 2026 is absolutely BONKERS.

Intermittent update on the #PilcrowChallenge: ten writing days out of eleven days, and ahead of pace. Jumping around and working on the ending for a bit.

Intermittent update on the #PilcrowChallenge: I missed a day and killed my little streak, but I had a great writing day today and turned in just over 2k words in a sitting. (“That still only counts as one!” - Gimli)

The site is TrackBear, if anyone should be curious

So I started a new thing at the beginning of the month. I was intending to start a completely new/different thing, but I was editing TLC just before and inspiration got its claws into me. Introducing:

#WritersCoffeeClub 5/9: Do you track your word count? How? Why?
Yes, through Scrivener itself and through a site called Trackbear.
I do it to make sure i don't ramble on and write another WIP waaayy above acceptable industry wordcounts.

Longest streak was 72 days in a row of writing at least a little bit every day!

Shout out the absolutely excellent trackbear.app for tracking my words and making neat little charts and stats out of it!

My writing year runs from September 1st to August 31st (because writing in the autumn is easy and writing in the summer is hard), so here’s my stats after a full year of writing. I wrote at least a paragraph (defined as 33 words) 133 days of the year, or 36.44% of the days.

75,339 words total!
September 1, 2026 at 2:22 AM
Well, August is done and I don't know where it went. However, I did manage to continue to build my writing habit up. At least 600 words a day for 31 days.

Quick plug to TrackBear as well. Fantastic free app.
