County leaders heard a presentation on a proposed 75‑mile regional trail linking two counties, with a preliminary construction estimate in the $44,000,000 range and state and federal grants targeted to cover most costs.

Maine Audubon president Judy Camuso told the council the sanctuary near Lester B. Orcutt is small (about 24–25 acres) and heavily used in summer; Audubon recorded roughly 4,000–5,000 monthly visitors in July and August and warned that additional parking and visitor traffic could worsen erosion and off‑trail 'sneak trails.'

The Humboldt County Board approved a resolution replacing a prior 50% camping-fee arrangement by transferring camping revenues into the county's land acquisition fund (up to $150,000) to preserve funds for easements and trail acquisition; staff reported a current land-acquisition balance of about $31,000 and local pledges totaling roughly $20,000.
