Horst-Mahler-Syndrom - gibts dis wirklich?🤭

Mercury, Meridan and Genesis are 51% state owned while Transpower is 100 % govt owned.
Luxon’s lot use electricity as a revenue collection agency and an investor bonus scheme at the expense of AoNZers. No way in hell does Luxon give a rats arse about the cost of living(greed) crisis.

Without having time to listen to the podcast, I assume by "solar tsunami" he means a CME. And the result would be all electronic devices being suddenly fried.

Well Transpower already makes too much money if they were paying a 30 million dividend to the Government, why not just operate enough to maintain current assets and a pipeline of future works

Apparently there are 17 projects in the delivery phase adding 3,342 MW of generation.

It would get interesting if we could add the 8,547MW from the "investigation" phase.

(Although batteries are counted as generation too. Probably just from a network operator perspective)

I’m assuming State Owned Enterprises are still a thing. I don’t think it hurts either.

Famously our very own super deoderant sales person (PM) worked at an Airline that is / was 51% owned by government. Not a technical SOE but there are plenty e.g. Transpower

For example we recently had a record solar generation (and summer is yet to come)

Renewable generation capacity coming online should help with that.

Power bills rise as regulator-approved Transpower profit jumps 64%
_Summarised by_ Centrist **Consumers are paying more to fund grid investment as higher regulator-approved revenue lifts Transpower’s after-tax profit 64% to $176 million under new Commerce Commission settings.** **The state-owned operator of New Zealand’s national electricity grid said the increase primarily reflected a higher regulated return on capital under its latest five-year control period.** The Commerce Commission says the increase is necessary to replace ageing grid infrastructure, meet higher financing costs and prepare the electricity system for growing demand. But the higher returns come as consumers face another round of electricity price increases. Electricity Authority figures show household and small-business power prices rose an average 6.8% during the first half of 2026, following an 8% increase last year. Lines charges, including transmission and local distribution costs, accounted for 54% of this year’s increase. Transpower itself accounts for only part of those network costs. It says transmission charges make up roughly 8% of an average household electricity bill. The company argues considerably more investment will be required as New Zealand electrifies transport and industry and older grid infrastructure reaches the end of its life. Transpower declared a final dividend of $30 million to the government and says it has identified $53 million in savings over the remaining four years of its current regulatory period. Transpower should not be a listed company that creates profit, it is critical infrastructure, and a fucking monopoly.

Honestly I'm not worried about transpower when they are doing important investment into our grid. I feel like we are ahead of other countries when it comes to keeping up with our investment into the grid to keep up with new renewable demand. The gentailers on the other hand

Why does Transpower even pay a dividend? Should it not just reinvest every bit of profit it makes back into the grid or operate in a way that it makes no profit and has enough income to maintain and grow the network?
