i love loanwords i love accents i love pidgins and creoles and translanguaging and dialect continua and i love the squishy humanity of language varieties being pressed together and rubbing off on each other and being not-really-different-things, it makes me feel so connected to humanity

Multilingualism is a superpower.

Home languages need to be welcomed and celebrated in all classrooms.

Magic happens when children are invited to use their full linguistic repertoire to both receive and express ideas and information.

Introduced my students to the concept of translanguaging today and asked them how many of them ever said OY and around half will say OY, and asked how many of them say OY VEY and around a third of them did, and I asked them if they were translanguaging into Yiddish when they do that and all said yes

The so-called multilingual perspective on translanguaging suggests that the core question up for debate is whether languages exist. But the question I am more interested in is how languages and the borders between them come to exist. Spoiler alert: colonialism plays a big part in that.
