i've gotten to a point where i've grinded out side stuff so much that i've maxed out my ship upgrades & quite alot of heath/attack upgrades, and i'm still in chapter 3.
so sometimes i'll take out a trashmob too fast for the dragon engine and it'll take a minute to register that the combat is over.
