There are times in my work representing Ward 5 neighbors when I see or hear something that truly stops me in my tracks. I had one of those experiences this week when my team and I continued our Ward 5 Housing Conditions Tour with a visit to 1400 Florida Ave NE in Trinidad.

It's not just the National Guard that's been staging in the Joe Cole/Wheatley parking lot yesterday and today, it's also HSI (ICE). The neighborhood holds its weekly farmers market on Sundays in that lot; summer camp and programming at Joe Cole Rec has been ongoing; school starts in a week.

We have had more than half the public litter cans removed in #TrinidadDC since I have lived here, and this guy was taking about how he’s convinced “the dog people” are why we have rats and they need to be “told” to stop. I hate the few folks who don’t clean up too but c’mon dude.

#TrinidadDC streets are 100x cleaner than they were 15 yrs ago, but now is the worst I've seen in a decade. Honestly, DPW should sweep every single street now (they won't, neighbors will eventually).
