and the idea that the euros were a "tripwire" until US forces could flow across the Atlantic is
- kind of a silly word to use considering they're fighting on their own soil
- probably a valid assumption for most of the Cold War but much less so for the last 10-15 years

As others have pointed out, the person who SHOULD trip your weirdness tripwire is the person who is on the cover of a major magazine screaming about how they’ve been “cancelled.”

One of my pet peeves is folks taking the time to leave a "never heard of <insert person>" comment. It's a proclamation of a knowledge gap, which is a weird thing to do. You don't HAVE to know about these people, but to declare it loudly feels very Boomer and usually involves women media figures.
i find ivy wolk generally annoying and this cover is cringe but the number of people in the replies proud of not knowing who she is embarrassing. she was in Anora! the 2024 best picture winner! a major character in If I Had Legs I'd Kick You! don't take pride in the fact you're not paying attention!

They're called tripwire forces and they're very effective at deterring invasions. Their entire point is making it abundantly clear that if you invade this country, you're going to be also doing big-boy war against the tripwire force. Russia looks for weak isolated countries to pick off.

This is where you derailed me. "How would they know?" is terrible advice. Maybe you're just unlucky. Maybe they've got a tripwire system--somebody checks a Google keywords check or they've set up a bot to crawl the web looking for it. Either way, it could go bad.

Yeah, I suppose so. It just seems like they would be so thiny spread.. my concern would not be so much a formal Russian attack, where as you say they would be a tripwire, but Russian sponsored insurgency or terrorism, which could remain deniable, but would draw the forces in.
