Monotropa uniflora, commonly known as ghost pipe or Indian pipe, is a unique, parasitic plant that lacks chlorophyll and appears white or pale pink, resembling a pipe or ghost. It gets nutrients indirectly from trees by tapping into the mycorrhizal fungi network, growing in shady forest understories. The plant has a single, bell-shaped flower and is known for its delicate nature, bruising easily to black, and has traditional medicinal uses for pain and anxiety, though it can be poisonous in large quantities.
