Charis Tsevis is a Greek visual designer who lives and works in Pafos, Cyprus. He holds a Diploma in Graphic Design from the Akademie für das Grafische Gewerbe, München, and a Master's in Visual Design from the Scuola Politecnica di Design, Milano. His client list includes companies like Nike, Google, Ferrari, PepsiCo, Toyota and IKEA, advertising agencies like TBWA\Chiat\Day, Saatchi & Saatchi LA, DDB Munich and Leo Burnett Hong Kong and media like Time, Fortune, Wired and the Wall Street Journal "Africa is not just a place; it’s a rhythm, a palette, a heartbeat. It’s a visual language of pattern, color, texture, and soul. This is how Africa’s patterns and spirit shaped my mosaic art. For me, Africa has always been more than inspiration. It’s a mirror and a map—a place I return to. The African Bricks series is my tribute to that world: a mosaic art series born from admiration, respect, and fascination with African culture." The basic element Charis used is the brick which he borrowed directly from the typical matchbox houses in the African townships, because Charis sees the brick as a symbol of people’s creativity. “A symbol of courage to build a safe place for the family. My bricks are sometimes stable and others unstable. And they are filled with other forms of African creativity. Fabrics, art, leather, animal skins…” His digital files became exceptional artworks when he printed them on wood in 8 colors, collaborating with the great team of Quality Printing Solutions.

The good bit: a vision model running on your own machine looks at each extracted icon and names it for what it is: lightbulb.png. Not icon_003.png. Nothing is ever uploaded.
