Navy Transitions From C-2 Greyhound To CMV-22B For Carrier Resupply Missions
The US Navy has retired the Grumman C-2A Greyhound, which served as the carrier onboard delivery (COD) aircraft for 60 years, and replaced it with the Bell Aircraft Corporation CMV-22B, a modified version of the V-22 Osprey tiltrotor. The Greyhound, a twin-engine turboprop designed for catapult launches and arrested landings on aircraft carriers, was retired after its final two aircraft performed their last carrier landings and catapult launches aboard the USS Nimitz on June 25. The CMV-22B offers significant advantages over the Greyhound, including a wider cargo bay that can transport F-35C engine modules without disassembly, vertical takeoff and landing capabilities that allow it to service smaller surface combatants and remote outposts directly, and the ability to perform vertical replenishment (VERTREP) operations. While the CMV-22B has a lower payload capacity (6,000 pounds vs. the Greyhound's 10,000 pounds), it provides greater operational flexibility and supports the Navy's shift toward distributed maritime operations. The transition faced challenges, including initial reliability issues with the Osprey's ice protection system and a temporary grounding of the entire V-22 fleet following a fatal Air Force CV-22B crash in November 2023, which forced the Navy to temporarily reactivate some Greyhounds. Despite these setbacks, the Navy plans to operate a fleet of 44 CMV-22Bs to support carrier strike groups, emphasizing the aircraft's role in sustaining fifth-generation fighter jets across dispersed fleet formations. The CMV-22B's shared airframe with the Marine Corps' MV-22B enables logistical efficiencies, allowing it to transport F-135 engine modules used by both the Navy's F-35C and Marine Corps' F-35B variants. This transition represents a strategic shift in naval logistics, moving from a carrier-centric model to a more flexible, decentralized network that enhances the Navy's ability to project power across contested theaters.

The 328 is definitely the best 90s regional aircraft never to have succeeded.
Warming over a 90s turboprop design has some merit but maybe it's better to choose the ATR, Dash-8 or even Saab 2000 where there's a decent support industry already.

A single drone is travelling one way. The amount of jet fuel required for these trips is minimal.

The turbojet propelled Geren-3 models are more expensive from a fuel standpoint than the prior generation Geren-2 turboprop models, but each one is likely using less than $150 USD in jet fuel.

I've right-seated a skydive turboprop deliberately descending 14,000+ to sea level in only a couple of minutes--our vertical-speed indicator was pegged at over 6000 fpm down, which is only about 60 knots. It's an aggressive descent but not one to induce weightlessness.

I could have missed one, but if this was indeed the pilot they attacked, it would be the first deadly assault on a commercial airline pilot by a passenger in over 18 years - and the last one (Eagle Airways Flight 2279) was a small turboprop. This was a 737. www.nbcnews.com/world/middle...
