Tonight I ended up explaining Relay Assist mode in TypeTalk (sorry, BT Relay UK 🙄) on Twitter.

Young people think TypeTalk is WEIRD and have done for at least 10yrs. My Minicom used to get funny looks at work.

It's my 2 year refuse-to-use-TypeTalk-i-versary today. (I'll use TXD to TXD tho)

It can't even do real italic! It just slants everything.

信頼性向上のための Typetalk の障害対策の取り組み

I've only had Relay setup for incoming calls but have "threatened" a few companies with it : "I have a hearing disability, can we settle this with email or can you provide your typetalk/Relay number" and usually get back "As requested, we've closed your account"

Uni funded Minicom 6000P with decent keyboard for me, eventually, but made a drama of it.

TypeTalk was so bad even our clueless about disability service manager agreed it was too awful to call students with, so I didn't. Mostly had it for harassing DSA team and DSA suppliers.

TypeTalkのサービス終了は寂しいけれども、周辺を巡る状況のことを考えると、経営判断としては正しいのかもしれないね。エンジニアの思いと経営的な判断は時として必ずしも一致するとは限らないのもまた現実なのかもしれない。

Typetalk、もうすぐサービス終了か。チャットツールとしてのスタンダード獲得には至らなかったのは残念だけれども、そこで得られることのできた技術的なノウハウは、きっと他のサービスに活かされることでしょう。

意外とTypetalkユーザーが周りに多くて、そして、とても惜しんでいて驚いてる…なんかそんなに特別たったっけ？
