#UDAAP
Man it sure was cool when we had regulatory bodies that enforced UDAAP law
Scummy company. But I'm sure we all know why Adobe doesn't post on this platform anymore.

I had Adobe because it was required by classes. For now on, I'm using Open Source only.

When I worked at an insurance company I had to learn about Unfair and Deceptive Acts and Practices, or UDAAP law. One such unfair practice was making the opt out mechanism overly onerous to find or enact. Now, that only applied to personal information, generally speaking so this isn’t illegal but.

That sounds like a UDAAP violation to me. Har har finance joke.

Coworker watching a training vid: What is UDAAP!?

Me: Don't be a dick.

If the terms aren't clearly & legibly disclosed it's absolutely illegal.
I worked with attorneys for a decade on udaap claims - they apply to hospital/medical charges & services.

One of my favorite federal regulations I've had to deal with as a debt collector and a banker is UDAAP, which can be simplified down to:

Don't be a dick.

I'm doing udaap training for work and Vincent is luxuriating in my arms since I don't need my left hand right now. He's probably stay here all day if I let him

In all seriousness the first go-round of trainings about GLBA/UDAAP/AML were interesting. I wouldn't say I loved to do them, though, especially not the fifth time
“Diversity trainings were annoying” okay, name a work training that you loved to do?

For example, a company I applied with for a loan refinance didn't disclose that they would just deny you based upon having an income based repayment plan. So I filed a complaint and referenced UDAAP, and just like that ... credit inquiry removed.
February 7, 2024 at 10:35 PM
For example, I got a credit inquiry reversed, no questions, by calling the application process a "UDAAP" violation (which it basically was).

I got an ISP to fix a hard line real quick when I reported them to the BBB.

And when you start quoting contracts and saying "violation", you get prioritized.

Fun fact but this is felony UDAAP based on the stuff I had to take as a nominally involved insurance customer service rep, though of course I would face more consequences taking too expensive of a sandwich at a lunch event than whoever came up with this banger

One reason might be because we’re subject to Dodd-Frank making unfair, deceptive, or abusive acts or practices (UDAAP) illegal. Everything we’ve heard about GenAI hallucinations alone sounds tailor-made to put a financial institution in violation of that.

As an employee in the financial industry, we are inundated with training to recognize money laundering, elder abuse, red lining, UDAAP, mortgage fraud, disparate treatment/impact, utilize SARS etc etc etc.

You can report this but who the hell is going to investigate it?
August 15, 2026 at 3:22 PM
The consumer protector in me says it absolutely should NOT be allowed. It is a deceptive practice that is intended to cause severe financial harm by tying licensing fees to a factor that is almost wholly outside of the developer's control.

In my industry, that would be a UDAAP violation.

Among the rescinded items is guidance on “joint marketing” agreements under the Fair Credit Reporting Act and documents interpreting unfair, deceptive, or abusive acts or practices (UDAAP).

These had long been viewed by banks and lenders as overly vague and burdensome.

Section 5 of the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) Act, which bans "unfair or deceptive acts or practices (UDAP) in commerce," enforced by the FTC and other regulators. Additionally, the Dodd-Frank Act targets Unfair, Deceptive, or Abusive Acts or Practices (UDAAP) in financial services.

Santa Barbara has its own STD strain, was the RAL loan fraud capital, has loansharking & real estate UDAAP issues. You can find the bad anywhere if you look for it.

All these problems are solved when instead of demonizing people, places & values we start holding the unwanted BEHAVIOR accountable.
