A quick fire comment: the UKCS decision in Dillon is woeful. So much so, that together with For Women Scotland will define the 'legacy' of the Reed court.
I'll mention only the Windsor Framework ground of appeal: the Supreme Court denies direct effect to s2(1) of the WF because the rights in the /1

It is maddening. And it will be even more so a few years down the line, when someone from that UKCS panel will give a glossy interview to a magazine to say that they have been misunderstood and (they alone) didn't envisage the consequences of their decision
There's a bizarre line, repeated by prominent GC lawyers and campaigners, which goes something like: "the Supreme Court decided, legally, that trans women are men for all purposes". Maddening.

To be clear, I don't care about more or less drilling on the UKCS, everything is a rounding error to anything you want to apply it to (apart from the earnings of maybe 3 niche E&P players) but the mythical status it seems to be garnering in the media at the moment is just utterly insane.

And this is presumably even before we take into consideration that remaining UKCS resources are 70% oil, of which ~80% is currently exported...

Here's the problem: senior UKCS, incl Perm Secs, are expected to take responsibility for stuff for all decisions their Dept take, even if it was before they worked there. Which is why they always try to hide or bury mistakes & bad news, rather than whistleblow. It's an inbuilt UK CS mindset.

He was chosen by Johnson because he knew he would be malleable, as indeed he was. He was a weak Cabinet Secretary and wholly unsuited to be Head of the UKCS. The problem is the basic lack of accountability in the UK political system, significantly caused by FPTP & donor capture.
