(1/5) The mainstream story: banks lend out deposits they already have. The reality: banks create money when they lend. This is the loanable-funds theory, and it shapes bad policy across the board.

Shrinking forests, failing rivers, leaking houses. Policies to fix them get cancelled because of "money". Wrong frame. Britain issues the pound. The constraint is trees, workers, insulation, and time. Money is the tool.

The real question: why is a currency issuer tolerating involuntary unemployment at all? The Job Guarantee replaces this chaos with a living wage job offer to anyone who wants one.

A currency issuer doesn't choose between support and work incentives. It funds both. Framing this as a swap masks the actual trade-off: whose interests win.

"Bond markets spooked" = "we're raising rates anyway". Interest rates aren't market outcomes; the central bank sets them. Energy shocks need supply fixes, not unemployment. The deficit isn't the problem; stagflation is.

Two years is a patch job. Real price stability needs permanent public employment at a living wage. The Job Guarantee makes full employment and low inflation jointly achievable. Anything less leaves young people and inflation fighting over scraps.

When a news outlet claims the government "must find the money" before it spends, that's not economics. It's a lie that kills policy. Use our Complaint Letter Generator to file evidence-based challenges to misleading economic reporting. Name the error.

Involuntary unemployment is not some 'natural' law of economics. It's a policy choice. The Job Guarantee shows it: when government offers a job at a living wage, that floor exists. Practice defending this in Debate Dojo.

"Stop releasing prisoners early" sounds tough until you realise: we chose to build fewer prisons than we have prisoners. Currency issuer can fund the real resources. The question isn't affordability. What's the actual crime strategy?

Tariffs raise instrument prices. But the real question isn't whether budgets are meager. It's why a currency-issuing government lets school music die for lack of pounds. Fund it.

The betting shops say a tax rise will destroy jobs. They always say that. The real question: does the government need the £460m, or does it need the real resources that money would buy. Those are different things.

They'll say we can't afford a job guarantee. What they mean is: we choose not to spend on jobs. Currency issuers don't have a money problem; they have a political will problem.

"How will you pay for it?" kills climate policy faster than any lobbying.

It's a political trap.

Money is not a resource like forests, the rivers, the materials and the workforce to do it. We have those so let's just get on with it!

The household-budget analogy is wrong. The government is a currency issuer; you are a currency user. A household must earn income before it spends. A government creates money when it spends & destroys it when it taxes. The real constraint is real resources, not the budget deficit.

The funding objection kills climate action. 'How will we pay for it?' stops rivers being fixed, forests being planted, homes being retrofitted. Wrong question. The real question is: do we have the cement, the workers, the insulation, the labour? We do.

"We can't afford it" is killing Britain's forests and rivers. Wrong question. The issuer of pounds has no spending constraint. The real limit is labour, materials, and engineering capacity.

The objection is always 'where's the money for climate?' The real question is whether we have the forests, engineers, supply chains and materials to fix it. A currency issuer can always fund the work. Real resources are the limit.
