Another 2 species of Pterostichus ground beetle are the Black Clock Beetle , Pterostichus madidus, and the Great Blackclock ,Pterostichus niger. Like most other Pterostichus species they eat slugs as well as insects and plant material.

The Ashy mining bee,Andrena cineraria,one of our solitary bees + an important pollinator. The bees fly from April until early June,most noticeably during the flowering periods of fruit trees.Nests are constructed in the ground, the entrances are surrounded by a volcano-like mound of excavated spoil.

The Flower crab spider or Goldenrod spider, Misumena vatia, is a master of disguise. They have the ability to change between yellow and white based on their surroundings through the molting process, so the change can take up to 25 days which is why you sometimes find them on the 'wrong' flower.

Early spring is the time you start seeing small fuzzy insects hovering like hummingbirds in front of some flowers. They are not hoverflies, nor bumblebees but bee-flies which are a type of fly , important pollinators with spectacularly long proboscises adapted to plants.
