Great post highlighting the challenges libraries are facing and the diverse and immensely valuable support they provide across research institutions and beyond (which I know from experience researchers and others may not be aware of)

Unlocking the Power of Community: Reflections on the UKSG Forum 2025
When budgets are constrained, community becomes the essential resource. Yesterday I spent the day in Brighton for the UKSG Forum, one of my favourite events in the scholarly communications calendar.

I must also mention the AMAZING team from UCA for the presentation on their Legacy project with the iconic Zandra Rhodes too! #UKSGForum2025

I had a lovely time at #UKSGForum2025 today despite the chaotic train connections. Lots to report back to colleagues! I'm hoping the next conference I go to I don't end up spilling my tea - it's becoming a bit of a habit #dyspraxia

Alt: a woman wearing headphones is holding a mug that says ' players ' on it and she nearly spills the tea into her lap.

Presentation of the day #UKSGForum2025 has to go to @littlebutfierce.bsky.social for her phenomenal film noir tinged take on systematic reviews. I have a new standard to aspire to in my future presentations now - look at these slides 😍😍😍😍

It's been a productive day here at #UKSGForum2025. The talks were inspiring, including some images of floppy disks shortbread in a baking contest to improve open-data community.
Kudos to the programme committee, and of course the amazing @charlierapple.bsky.social keeping us all moving. 👏🏾

What does good look like in AI adoption for a university? Great overview at #UKSGForum2025 from @mark-h-cymru.bsky.social

Mark Hughes from Cardiff finishing the day talking about AI in libraries.

Discourse currently is a bit of a bin fire and also very much a marmite polarisation situation.

Hard to cut through the noise.

Is that the one that starts with you walking down the street? Are you just trying to trick me into having that open on my browser again for months?! "The internets. Voiced by Beth!" #UKSGForum2025
Lovely to be nabbed in the coffee break to be told that this video we did at the Crick was really useful when getting to grips with OA and the STEM publishing landscape.

The Zandra Rhodes’ Colourful Heritage project looks AMAZING too - as vibrant and energetic as its subject. Loved how engaged with practitioners and potential users it was - right down to co-created approaches to metadata. mylibrary.uca.ac.uk/colourfulher... #UKSGForum2025

A great morning of talks at the #UKSGForum2025 encompassing print moves and collection development at both smaller and larger libraries, AI and digital literacies, digitization and more

Post coffee break and a very sugary but delicious cake, the next talk is @kirahopkins.bsky.social from @copim.bsky.social

Building an info hub around open access books. It was massively overwhelming, so decided to create a hub of the existing resources

Halfway through, and I've seen great projects by libraries and institutions here at #UKSGForum2025, the spectrum of community engagement being deployed is staggering but shoiwing positive move nonetheless.

The thing I'm finding interesting about this is if LBU are doing a deep dive into how to do this, are other institutions creating their own bespoke situation or just sweeping it under the carpet?

You also have to say your colleagues haven't also asked for it. So literally impossible through standard inter-library loan 🤔

CLA updated license 😮 But not ILL so use the digitisation model used to make content available for student groups.

Apparently people get really nervous talking about systematic review.

Can start to cost a lot in terms of ILL both demand and financial!

Also, copyright. ILL says its for individual use, but systematic review is shared.

(The slides for this are amazing)

Loads of awesome initiatives from Lancaster. It's all the cool stuff you can do if you have time to step away from just BAU compliance - harder and harder without striking budgets, but essentially if we want to stay relevant in open research spaces.

There's actually a talk about Open Data at #UKSGForum2025 - scuttlebutt is that it's very difficult to get talks about the wider open research agenda accepted.
December 3, 2025 at 2:05 PM
Was exciting reading the article about the project, wishing I could take part in it. It'd continue to be a relevant educational tool for #OA for the vast majority of academia's key audience - students. Could also be applied for business models, etc. #ScholComm.
