Sticking with spiders for this one. Here's a female Walnut Orbweaver (Nuctenea umbratica) I found a couple of nights back. They have a slightly flattened abdomen allowing them to hide in cracks and crevices during the day.

This unusual spider is a Spitting Spider (Scyctodes thoracica). A new species for me and a very welcome find on an after-dark mooch around the garden. One of the few UK spiders with only 6 eyes.

I can always bank on finding one of these beauties🙂. A large female Walnut Orbweaver (Nuctenaea umbratica). Just head out after dark with a torch and check on fences or other structures.

Fun Spider Fact: Linyphiids ("money spiders"- the *best* spiders!), one of the most diverse families, currently comprise 635 genera & nearly ~5,000 species. China currently has ~540 species and the UK nearly 700!

Recorded two females and four male Thomisus onustus from a site in west sussex first time ive found them at this site, last records are from Dick Jones in 1996 so great the species is still there and doing well.

🕷️ Heard a buzzing whilst I was watering the onions and found a battle was going on between a black slip wasp and a false widow spider (I think!).

🐝 If you look closely you can see the spider using its silk to wrap and immobilise the wasp.
