So much going on in this shot from last summer. Initially, I spotted the Misumena vatia spider with her prey amongst the thistles. When I got closer I noticed the flies getting in on the act and then the male spider showed up!

The Flower crab spider or Goldenrod spider, Misumena vatia, is a master of disguise. They have the ability to change between yellow and white based on their surroundings through the molting process, so the change can take up to 25 days which is why you sometimes find them on the 'wrong' flower.

I noticed something odd on the back of this Clubiona terrestris’s cephalothorax but I didn’t twig what it was until it had eaten most of the spider’s abdomen, pupated and emerged as a rather lovely Schizopyga frigida. #parasitism. From Cranwich Camp on 21-Mar with @davidnorgate.bsky.social

Adult Schizopyga frigida that had eaten the spider’s abdomen when it was a larva. Its head and body of black but the legs and antennae are partly orange. The front and middle legs are almost uniformly orange (a little dark at the apex of the tibia and tarsi, and the orange is paler at the base of each section) but the hind legs are boldly banded dark and pale orange. #UKwasp #UKwasps #parasite #entomology Adult Schizopyga frigida that had eaten the spider’s abdomen when it was a larva. #UKSpider folk of BlueSky, do you agree this is Pelecopsis parallela? From mid Norfolk pitfall on 4th/5th April, in ex-arable to be restored to heath. Norfolk records (on NBN Atlas) are restricted to the Brecks so I would appreciate a second opinion from more experienced spider botherers.
