At some point in the last 25 years, corporations managed to convince people that it was worthwhile to trade control over our own information and actual ownership of the things we purchase for convenience. Things that used to be "normal" are now seen as "luxury goods" that demand a premium.
My company recently “upgraded” all of us from HP ultrabooks to Thinkpads and it was genuinely upsetting. Not least because the ultrabook was thinner and lighter.

Rappelez-vous que les "PC Master Race 4K Ultra sinon rien" sont les mêmes qui jouent majoritairement sur leur Steam Deck aujourd'hui en 800p réglages moyen FSR2 performance.
Et que même les ultrabooks de la gen 2025/2026 sont capables d'envoyer du 1080p@60 aujourd'hui.

It's also unlikely that budget machines will get NPUs.
It's currently limited to Intel Core Ultra, which is put into expensive Ultrabooks and laptops.
And killing budget machines would give a lot of future market share to ChromeOS.
