They want the instant gratification of unboundless doggie love (extremely valid, and I get it).
But they don't understand the feeling of gaining a cat's total trust.
IMO.

They owe authors hundreds of thousands in unpaid royalties, and are trying to wriggle out of that obligation while keeping the rights to the books.

I've made my feelings on Unbound/Boundless known on here before.
Started great. Proceeded to screw over every author that's published with them in some way, myself included.
Writers, do not publish with them.
Agents, do not submit to them.
Bookstores, do not carry their books.
Any company that thinks torching this many authors will result in being able to “continue publishing and rebuild trust” is delusional and deserves to die.
But it’s always “People like your stuff. Make something cool. Ask them to pay for it.”
Then I realise I already did that, and that was the money Unbound stole.
I bet lots of authors are in the same hole.
So now it's time for yet another round of "What Do I Tell My Mortgage Provider?", and a quick game of "How Do I Feed My Dog?"
Fuck you, publishing. What a turd of a profession.
