Weird! They probably had to use a lot of understudies and swings and couldn’t get everyone there for the matinee. That sucks yours was canceled 😢

But yeah Rintaro worked under Tezuka heavily with astroboy, I wouldn’t be surprised if for years Tezuka played every Disney movie he ever owned to his understudies as aspirational motivation to their tv anime

The other thing you can do is to restart summer unstaged opera performances in local City parks. I loved those growing up, they are not expensive to do, they give understudies performance opportunities, and you bring opera into the ears of kids and adults who have never heard it before.

I don't know about being a professor, but every job I've had for the past 25 years has been "Lead", so I've used it to teach. And on the side I taught music too. And students/former "understudies" pop up here and there and say "hey, thank you", and it's good.

Impressive to step in like that on no notice! I did not know that they used essentially understudies but that makes sense given that like a Broadway show it’s a complex production. Thanks for the insight! 😎

No understudies in on Sunday so you must have been there on Saturday matinee? John Catron was in for Lucky. (Jim L. had a planned absence so fortunately Catron was able to nab some extra prep time for that VERY difficult monologue!)

This week, BUENA VISTA SOCIAL CLUB will be gracing the stage of the Durham Performing Arts Center. I recently spoke with one of the understudies, Josh Tower. He has previously been seen on Broadway and on tour in RAGTIME, THE LION KING, MOTOWN THE MUSICAL, SCHOOL OF ROCK, and HAMILTON.

Danny Thomas was just one of the many far-right Paramilitary understudies to flock to Belfast. What role did Danny Thomas, the men in this picture and the other facilitators play in inciting, organising, and promoting terror in Belfast?
