ken and i are staying at a bourgie airbnb with my family for my grandfather's 90th birthday. these types of houses are so aggressively unhomely, a reflection of them simply becoming property. sterile prop houses clearly never once designed with consideration of being lived in beyond marketing photos

Freud's flawed and incomplete work nevertheless engages with the concept of the unheimlich which we often translate into English as the uncanny, but also maybe "unhomely" which is a little less commonly used now. He talks about dolls and their uncanny, even nightmarish nature in our subconscious.
