This is why I was so annoyed when JHU got a separate police force. This is what universities do with their power

I’d be more interested in reading:

News of an alleged sexual assault at Cornell has brought renewed interest in the ‘punishment’ doled out to (alleged) perpetrators.

News of an alleged sexual assault at Cornell has brought renewed interest in how universities fail victims
News of an alleged sexual assault at Cornell has brought renewed attention to ketamine, which in certain doses can leave users immobilized yet oddly conscious and aware of events happening around them.
What Role Did Ketamine Play in Cornell’s Alleged Rape Case?
Ketamine a short-acting anesthetic that can have hallucinogenic effects. It is becoming more easily available, and some experts fear misuse is increasing.

#UCU Our universities are attacking the Arts. In this instance, Edinburgh University is cutting courses & staff because Management are claiming the university is in financial crisis. It isn’t, but it is mismanaged. By THEM. But students & staff suffer. Please sign this petition.

Powerful institutions like universities and governments generally care about how things look, not how things are. That's why you have to create a giant PR, legal, or administrative nightmare for them in order to extract even an ounce of accountability. I know this from several personal experiences.

+ developed/aggravated some severe health issues. This kind of thing happens all over the country bc universities want to minimize liability more than they want to serve justice to victims (their own students). Unis all over the country deserve scrutiny for how they handle student assault cases

Know who benefits from the Canadian system? Women! Women, on average, have higher grades. There's something like a 60/40 gender split across Canadian universities.

I’m disabled. I still find ways I can do and help.

Learn First Aid. Get CPR certified. Spread local native wildflower seeds. Universities sometimes have hobby classes at local extensions. Some are cheap. Learn new things. Find community online or/& off.

How have other universities addressed this issue, and what can be learned from their experiences?
October 1, 2026 at 2:35 PM
@ryanenos.bsky.social why haven't university leaders internalized this yet?

we're at (we've been at, I suppose) the point where it's obvious you win on the legal & PR front by aggressively fighting back. but outside some limited exceptions, universities remain eager-to-overcomply punching bags.
AP NORC: Trump approval at 31 points. A majority of Americans, 51%, *strongly disapprove*.

AFAIK, strong disapproval crushing overall approval by 20 points is unprecedented.

There is no political downside to opposing authoritarianism.

NEW: Public records obtained by 404 Media show administrators taking meetings with parents and alumni when they take issue with student reporting.

This comes as student journalists at The Cornell Daily Sun earned recognition for breaking the “Cornell Seven” story.

The anchors need to quit and build an independent news outlet. They will justify staying so they can tell the truth to a broad audience. That is what the big law firms an universities did. Have a spine
This is just despicable by MS NOW, which has accepted stolen taxpayers dollars for 38 illegal ads. Give me a break with this bullshit statement too. So your hosts are on air all day saying this is illegal while you are taking the money and running the ads? Just gross.

Look, I am from Austria, and we do not run into church every Sunday. We do not force our children into "bible studies" and we do not have any religious universities where they teach the bible instead of Darwin. Your version of the NT is probably the US version to deny the ugly truth.

"The correct treatment for Christopher Rufo, the conservative activist behind all the bans on teaching about racial issues in schools and universities, should be constant columns and editorials blasting him as an authoritarian, not extended interviews that treat him as a normal political actor."

This situation at Bowie state has been deeply troubling.
Now three universities in the USM system are undergoing or have undergone retrenchment, a processs that allows the president of the university to fire anyone.
Meanwhile salaries for higher-ups have rapidly increased over the past decade.
And this was after the administration there at Bowie State received tens of millions of dollars from Mackenzie Scott.
It’s appalling, and there is not nearly enough accountability in the USM system for how money is spent.

Between the stories out of Cornell and NAU, tell me again what the benefits of fraternities are at colleges and universities? How exactly do they shape and mold leaders of tomorrow? Why would anyone in their right mind encourage or allow their son to join one?
