Girls is a ridiculously accurate, unromanticized portrait of rich kids moving to the big city. also she did an amazing job setting the tone for Industry, a similarly sickeningly close read of the types of people who get into finance as a profession

The film has great texture, and Altman finds a kindred spirit in French cinematographer Jean Bofferty, who worked a lot with Claude Sautet in the 70s, imbuing his films with a similarly naturalistic beauty. The production design is also amazing, giving the film an unromanticized period authenticity

Until he demonstrates even the slightest hint of an unromanticized mental ilness

18. Do you like historical books? Which period?

Yeah! Any period where people had too many interests, not enough sense, and past the turn of the 20th century. Really psyched to finally sit down again with Against The Day, but love noir, weird crime books, and unromanticized history of the 60s & 70s

I love how unromanticized real life is. Like my mom read me some wonderful books as a kid but the thing we bonded over most was watching the Warwick Davis Leprechaun franchise together.

Woke up once again with the furnace out, which also means the water is frozen.

Pulling the fuse and putting it back in didn't work this morning so I had to hunt for the furnace reset while wearing 67 layers.

Found it - heat working, water is unfrozen within 20 mins.

Hong Sang-soo Summer continues with NIGHT AND DAY, in which we take a trip to a thoroughly romanticized-unromanticized Paris: letterboxd.com/purkka/film/...
A ★★★★ review of Night and Day (2008)
HONG SANG-SOO SUMMER 8/32 – People usually argue during trips. – Why do people argue when they travel? – Well, people get caught up in their own feelings. – That's what I call a nuthead. I bet she's o...

***ANNOUNCEMENT***

Coming on May 26th on Blu-ray in the UK from #Shameles: #Contraband (1980)!

Lucio Fulci lays bare the raw - and completely unromanticized - brutality of the Camorra in one of his most hard-hitting and unrelenting films, merging crime thriller with Horror's shocking aesthetics.

Legit Sopranos and Sergio Leone's Once upon a time in America are the most unromanticized depictions of organized crime out there. It doesn't really get bleaker than those two.

The GI Joe comic was also my gateway into The ‘Nam, which introduced me to the history of the Vietnam war. It came out at the perfect time where I was too old for GI Joe but still enjoyed military comics. For a Marvel comic it was a very unromanticized depiction of being on the front lines of a war.

Sanpei's obviously very solid at doing slick, idealized action scenes of people going at it.

But him also perfectly nailing the unromanticized patheticness of most violence/fights, with just two guys looking like clowns...beautiful.

Punctuates how stupid most rituals of the samurai class are.

May 24, 1924: Philip Pearlstein, a painter who helped revive realism in art with his unromanticized nudes, often with unusual cropping, is born in Pittsburgh. He boasted he “rescued the human figure from its tormented, agonized condition given it by the expressionistic artists.”

Anyway his nudes (like L'Origine) are wonderful, with (mostly) unromanticized bodies and a better understanding of how boobs slide on a reclining body than most painters of renown lol

if you do, can we get an unromanticized storytelling? cause i have questions

the writer’s akas characterization is just closer on par to what i imagine akas as, a very simple, grounded unromanticized characterization

@tayfonay 👍 Pew pew class. We need to adapt to survive. I took pew pew class when I was a lazy and indifferent 15 year old. It was a high school PE course. But it unromanticized and demystified pew pews, and I learned how not to be a dangerous indifferent lazy ass. Good luck.

History:
"Under the Black Flag" by David Cordingly is a great, unromanticized history of pirates.

Fiction:
"Star Trek: Department of Temporal Investigations - Watching the Clock" by Christopher Bennet still holds up. Recommended easily. Time travel that leans into mind-screwiness.

There's a great historical book, "Under the Black Flag" by David Cordingly that examines the unromanticized history of pirates. Pirates were surprisingly fair...among each other. Usually.

I grew up inside the life they're romanticizing.
It wasn't peaceful.
Memory doesn't edit out the violence.
