The UPExpress has really unlocked possibility of taking Via to Belleville/Kingston after a YVR-YYZ flight. For a solo traveler it is cheaper than rental car. Much less risk of falling asleep at the wheel too....

Opened on June 6, 2015 it provided a rail link between Union Station and Toronto Pearson International Airport, with stops at Bloor and Weston Stations.

How exactly does it contribute to the local economy while carrying 4% of passengers?

The airport itself can’t even cook up a plausible economic impact statement.

Part of the platform will be used by the
UP Express, longer 4 to 5 car trains will be able to stop here.
The rest will remain unused. In the future, this station may be a stop on the GO Transit Kitchener Line

Brockville is only an hour and a half drive from Ottawa. Via couldn’t get buses to shuttle them back? How is there no contingency plan?
