It’s the last #StandingStoneSunday of the year … thinking back to some fantastic sites I saw for the first time in 2025. This is one of the very best - beautiful Uragh on the Beara peninsula, Co Kerry.

Yesterday, I spent the morning in Uragh, a fragment of ancient Beara rainforest. It's part of less than 1/1,000th of Ireland with pre-1600 woodland.
I've been highlighting the plight of this uniquely special ecosystem for years now, leading to government promises of action.

Yesterday, I spent the morning in Uragh, a fragment of ancient Beara rainforest. It's part of less than 1/1,000th of Ireland with pre-1600 woodland.
I've been highlighting the plight of this uniquely special ecosystem for years now, leading to government promises of action.

Great to spend yesterday in Uragh ancient rainforest with @whittledaway.bksy.social + 3 hugely competent NPWS personnel, 2 of whom will be culling the invasive sika + goats that are killing the woods.
It's hard to think of *any* more important work than protecting the last of these ecosystems.
