Good morning with good news: Virtual Power Plant capacity grew 13.7%, from 33 GW in 2024 to 37.5 GW in 2025 nationally. That is equal to about 5% of national peak load.
Residential VPP capacity surged 16%.
Battery storage and EV participation in VPP rose.

Kentucky is home to so many businesses known world-wide, including L'Oreal. I loved getting a chance to visit the company's Florence facility, which was just recertified as an OSHA VPP Star Site—an achievement recognizing their commitment to the safety of their workers. Congrats!

Side effect of enshittified clean tech - makes you want the dumb version.
I'm signed up for a VPP - great! But I sure as heck am not handing over control of my thermostat and water heater to my utility or a startup - I control myself. Protects against enshittification, but less juice for the VPP.

@volts.wtf had an eye-opening interview w/ Cory Doctorow laying out incentives + forces that eventually push well-meaning startups toward planned obsolescence & other forms of enshiftification. Made the case that the only way a company avoids this is if founders tie their hands right at the start.
