I remember my neurologist and I opted to use Gabapentin as an anti-seizure add-on med b/c hand tremor from the high dose Valproate was really bad in Spring 1994. Lowering Valproate reduced hand tremor but the Gabapentin made my mouth dry, thirsty, and having to pee more often.
Wild how many people are willing to post their default is disability discrimination. Sjögren's disease destroys salivary glands, so too can lupus, and rheumatoid arthritis, and having had radiation for head or neck cancer.

This is actually a quite common scenario (I see it a couple of times per year): the combination of valproate with carbapenems is associated with a potential drug interaction that ⬇️ serum concentration of valproate & exposes the patient to uncontrolled seizures from sub-therapeutic V levels... 😬

How much I already am in love with this platform. I had the opportunity to use this knowledge today in the care of a patient with significant valproate toxicity as an ANTIDOTE. #EMIMCC #tox

in addition to painkillers, Ahmed needs to take his anticonvulsant medication valproate daily for his seizures. The medication is very expensive due to scarcity in Gaza. Anyone who's ever had seizures themselves or watched a loved one go through them knows how important this is

We have just concluded that the evidence of potential risk of neurodevelopmental disorders in children born to men treated with #valproate is inconsistent, so existing precautions should be maintained for male patients.

We have just concluded that the evidence of potential risk of neurodevelopmental disorders in children born to men treated with #valproate is inconsistent, so existing precautions should be maintained for male patients.

I have now changed epilepsy meds, over to Lamotrigine, and am now off Sodium Valproate.
Early days, but I do seem to be feeling better. More 'me'. My ability to feel happier, excited about things, look forward to stuff... Seems to be returning.
