You can set the private valuation of a company entirely based on how many shares you're buying and at what price. It is not like a formal valuation like you'd get in a public company.

You can set the private valuation of a company entirely based on how many shares you're buying and at what price. It is not like a formal valuation like you'd get in a public company.

companies need to be automatically broken apart when they reach 100 billion in valuation. we can quibble on the number, I think it should be even lower, but I think the vast majority of people would agree with 100 billion.

OpenAI's $11bn raise is a very, very bad sign, especially given that A) $11bn won't cover a quarter's compute costs and B) a $1.25tn private valuation is overinflated in the face of Anthropic's potential $1.5tn IPO. It's unclear what OpenAI does next.
