#bloodhound won the wheel, so here's a #vampiredetective dealing with some faefolk...and his own shame--but he is always dealing with that.
#WIPSnips

“Don’t the menfolk like covers?” Fzzt’s voice sang quieter with the question, in a tone Deluca had never heard from the small creature.
And that was, of course, when he realized he wasn’t wearing a shirt.
Fucking wolf, he did not so much complain as muse, savoring the memory and promptly cursing himself for it, fucking flesh. A lapse, my love...nothing more.
But it was something more, something tingling still, bubbling his voice and soothing his ever-gnawing hunger. So he sought to drown it, in levity, and fresh distractions...
“That does explain the looks,” he answered the gremlin, who tittered for his smile, “how about I pop upstairs for a fresh shirt while you two make yourselves at home,” remembering rules regarding hospitality, he quickly amended, “that is an invitation to come inside and sit down, nothing more.”
“Nice save, fireskin” Thump chuckled, slapping too low on his back with too long of an arm as she stomped into his home.

“Altruistic of you,” Deluca teased as he tickled the pup into giggles.
Sneering at the affection, Leandro swallowed budding jealousy and left to search for things she may need, “werewolf thing, can’t say no to the pack even if I want to.”
Calming, he would say, the pup had a calming effect on him. In his arms she fit, and Deluca struggled more with the idea of letting her go. Even as he followed Leandro to other floors in search of supplies he considered holding her tighter, mentally preparing how he’d explain her to Lucient.
“Your pack?” He asked, when Leandro stopped in the kitchen.
Carefully pulling intestines off a cupboard handle with a ladle, Leandro grimaced and packed a bag with jars of baby food as he answered honestly, “More a pack headed by a couple that wanted a third until they didn’t and abandoned me, but sure, let’s say mine.”

First draft of #bloodhound Vol1, the #vampiredetective novel complete!

169,260 words in total.

I never celebrate finishing a thing, usually just go to the next thing or start revising. But I am too dizzy from pain to even write. So, I thought I should try. How do you do that?

No 'imposter', but 'lie' used in the same fashion.

Scoffing, Deluca sipped the prepared coffee and teased, “What do you think you know, Alessandro?”
“So che eri con quel fottuto lupo,” He snapped, slapping the back of the idiot’s head—not disrupting his sip but filling it with chuckles, “and I know there’s a reason I worked so hard to get the A.F. to set up a vampire detox facility.”
“So I’m an addict?” turning on the love seat, Deluca slid a knee up to lean on his hand, voice taunting, “Some fresh thing falling hard and fast for blood too heady?”
Alessandro sighed, “Or, maybe, you found someone more desperate for what they can’t have than you are and, by some cruel twist of fate,” he gestured at the massive photo of Lucient, “the fucker looks like what you want. So you’re ignoring sense and falling deeper for a lie you want and he aches to be.”
That dropped his smile, “Some detective work there, Inspector, care to cite your sources, or explain how you’d know any of that without incriminating yourself?”

Poor Detective can't catch a break with this werewolf. It's almost like he was designed to torture him...>.>

Translation for Italian: "I could drown inside you if you let me."

“Even mad your words sing deep and smooth, you vibrate along my skin, do you know that?” Another nibble, licking and kissing down his neck, allowing those soft, strong hands to squeeze his wrists tighter. “You’re impossible and I want you. Always I do.” Purring for the lack of further resistance, he moved to taste lips, ignoring how they didn’t respond, “potrei affogare dentro di te se me lo permettessi.” Certain his eyes were wide and visible, he searched the browns he ached for, “look into these eyes you curse so often and tell me you don’t want to throw me on that bed and fill me with all the raging heat I see in yours...and I’ll walk.”
He did try.
If not for the purr beneath the words, the eyes, the hair...the colors he wore, even the manner he spoke, so close to who he dreamed of, he might have succeeded.
But he didn’t.

“Fantasma pazzo,” Deluca muttered—when out of earshot of the ghost—but as Alessandro had nothing to add, he nudged him again, “you were a force back there, you know,” cooing too close to an ear, he added, “il mio eroe.”
Alessandro gasped, stuttered and sweet, before speaking, “I’m no hero, and none of that when we reach the team.”
Continuing to speak too close to his ear, Deluca retained the teasing tone, “Did Lottie scare the big, tough, Inspector?”
“Now you remember my title, and yes...in a way,” honesty, a fine trait and one Alessandro prided himself on, usually, well he tried, “she called you my toy.”
“Ghost deve badare a lei—” choosing to continue teasing instead of arguing what was, in a way, true, Deluca chuckled, checked for eyes and licked the ear he’d been cooing into. Savoring the small gasp, and shudder, he addressed the issue, “if anyone is a toy in this arrangement, Alessandro, we both know it isn’t me.”

Everyone wants the vampire, this is a problem. For everyone. Especially the vampire. Who is an idiot.

Setting his coffee down, Alessandro leaned close, to offer a harsh whisper, “Because I wanted you, idiota.”
“Even assuming I’d run again?” Insufferable his smile, knowing and sharp.
Keeping close, and quiet, Alessandro shot a hand wide—narrowly missing his cup—and huffed, “Why else would I go through all the trouble of dragging your ass into that coffin? I even reinforced the sigils. May not have much magic in me, but it’s enough to keep you from cowering in the inbetween. Which you haven’t explained.”
And he avoided it still, “You’re not catching feelings are you, Alessandro? You know I won’t return them.”
Scoffing, he leaned back, shaking his head at the idiot sitting across from him, “I’m not interested in hitching myself to a vampire.”
“You’ll bed one though,” Deluca’s tease came too low, near a sneer.
“You,” Alessandro corrected, just as low, “there’s something about your touch, your eyes, I...only you, Del.”

Totally normal behavior, yep. Nothing creepy about this at all.
#WIPSnips #bloodhound #vampiredetective

A gentle song interrupted the budding argument, “this one adores you, Detective.”
“Mm, I’m aware,” holding the hand on his cheek, he giggled for the one teasing the hair on his head, another poking down his collar, “but he knows I won’t return it.”
“Because of this,” Plagios did not ask but stated, lifting the hand with a ring on it, “marking you another’s,” before either Deluca or Leandro could explain, the merman did, rubbing at the gold as he spoke, “but he’s unavailable...no...imprisoned. In agony, shared agony,” wide eyes blinking with too many lids, hand so sweetly on Deluca’s cheek, he bent again for lips. Not holding but tasting, “how it must ache,” another taste, ignoring the growl growing so close, “to live, to breathe,” another, and another, “with so great a part of you missing...and enduring such torture.”

When Deluca left the shower and dried off he became keenly aware of a lack of anything else to wear. Odd that, as he should have had his pajama pants waiting on the floor. So he wore the towel and prepared for a smirking wolf.
“I came for this, sweetfangs,” the not at all smirking wolf cooed, too close and tight against him, teasing damp hair, “and this,” standing taller to get at lips he was unbothered when they didn’t return his kiss. “I like being around you, I like you.”
“Did you steal my pants?” Deluca’s question was asked with narrow eyes and a firmer grip of his towel.
And went unanswered, “are you listening to me?” Leandro made to step back but couldn’t, he wanted to be closer not further, so he stuck to arms—rubbing them soft and sweet despite a whisper to tear them to ribbons. “I am pouring my heart out here and you’re worried about pants?”

Turning to rest his back on his mother’s headstone, tears dried, he sucked down blood bag after blood bag.
Divalo, she would call him, curse him, and she’d be right. In a way.
“Not demons or devils, you said, my love,” he told the empty graveyard, “but monsters. Certainly monsters...and I adored every moment. Adore it now, as I do you,” another sip, grimacing for the lack of taste, “if not what it cost you. Cost us.”
Sustaining himself if not truly feeding, Deluca remained sat against that headstone, grumbling until sunrise threatened to steal the cool night away.
You’re all I deserve, he told the last blood bag, before realization hit, “oh, idiota del cazzo. Now what will sate while you search for this ghost,” looking over the gray light of dawn clawing through the cemetery—no hint of mist or chill sensation of spirits all evening—he shouted, “that doesn’t exist!”

I wrote a thing for creepy kids to sing to this vampire detective. I dunno if it properly conveys what needs doing while still being cryptic and singsong-y, but it was fun to write. So I share.

Bound by wish, by wave and brine
Spoke water’s name to make her thine
Tamed her, pleased her, held her tight
But Scarred her heart and drowned her light
A bloody dirge on night-black seas
‘Til cursed love begs and sets her free
