In #MathsToday I remembered the variationtheory website and so my year 9 had a storming lesson through order of operations. I loved the task that was just "what calculation is the first calculation". Really helped them grasp it.

I started the digestive system today with my 14-year-olds. We contrasted ways of digesting, before seeing that the fundamental process was the same. Then transitioned to seeing the human system in the concrete to the abstract. #SystemsTeaching #VariationTheory #EduSky #UKEd

Teaching then, must involve provoking students to perceive new things, and then checking, through dialogue, that their meaning is compatible with ours.

Gestation with Year 7s, with a focus on the placenta. So we explored some variation in nutrient provision in reproduction between reptiles, marsupials, and placentals. Then looked at the placenta itself, finally varying its ability to provide nutrients. #VariationTheory #iTeachBio
