I missed the heyday of CBGB, having moved to NYC in 1989, but I still got to see some shows there. Walking past that Varvatos store just makes me feel ill every time.
NYC’s CBGB closed 20 years ago today.
The Patti Smith Group performed — joined by special guests Richard Lloyd of Television and Flea of Red Hot Chili Peppers — and Talking Heads’ Chris Frantz and Tina Weymouth, the E Street Band’s Steven Van Zandt, and Jesse Malin also attended.

I wanted to do a thing, but was foiled by construction. The pole in the photo is about 6 inches from my hand, and it’s up against a huge construction barrier. So this is as good as I could manage. I’ve learned on this trip that approx. 92.6% of NYC is under construction.
