Okay, wait. I found out this is velvetleaf, an invasive species, and if, like me, you find yourself with a few of them, you should dispose of them in your trashcan (not compost) and stop them from going to seed

Update: The conduit is still mostly in my yard and also on top of the fence. Also an invasive species called "velvetleaf" is now growing everywhere they disturbed the ground in their aborted attempt to dig a trench three months ago.
