If ever there was a band who exemplified how much difference the right drummer makes*, R.E.M. was it. The vertiginous descent in quality and vitality after Bill's departure was breathtaking.

Travel day! My East Coast jaunt is coming to an end. It’s been lovely.

My digs these past two weeks have been what in Philadelphia is called a trinity—more or less three cozy rooms stacked atop each other, connected by a vertiginous staircase more like a ladder.

They’re part of what makes…

Some days I don't even know what to think of a culture that can produce both a JCO and a Tommy Tuberville. Vertiginous.
Not even sure they are the same species of hominid, and wow does Homo sapiens senatorius have some awfully grave neural deficits.

Describing manga hair as “vertiginous” strikes me as a slight exaggeration, but we are talking advertising here… XD

Only 24 votes in it! If you haven't voted yet, let it be for slippery, shiny, single graphene sheets of #graphite
Dad took me up the very high "mix tower" at the dry battery factory once. Vertiginous... I held on tight to the handrail... my hands were covered in shiny dark grey graphene (pre 2004!)
#Graphite aka black lead or plumbago has been mined for 100s of years, but the discovery that it is made up of 2D sheets of graphene is really recent
Graphene was only theorised in 1947 and isolated, using adhesive tape (!) In 2004. (See the Wikipedia entry) vote #graphite in #MinCup26

Final form Quentin Dupieux is a GTA: San Andreas-style middle-aged grump-com where living in a simulation is more of a mild inconvenience than a cataclysmic apocalypse. My review of #LeVertige (or #Vertiginous) for @thegeekshow.bsky.social

Oscar plunging down an impossibly vertiginous and fluidly mobile grassy slope. Excellent.

yeah, very likely.

still, existence continues, and even materially we continue to be a part of it.

all the bits go into different forms sooner or later. some of those may include big brains that think. are they "us?" doubtful if you insist on past life memory.

but, vertiginous question
September 27, 2026 at 3:28 AM
but also what you're talking about is "the vertiginous question"

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Why_am_...

too, just on how the brain works: When are we "us?" By adult rational definition, not in infancy yet, for instance

what you're talking about is strict materialism, which, I'm not really so much, though I too get annoyed with overly floaty shit.

because the universe is fucking weird and so is the fact of subjective experience.

when I do my philosophy presentation Imma go for "the vertiginous question"

You can probably throw Vertiginous Golf on that list. It's a golf game that iirc (it's been years since I played this game) felt more like an excuse to tell you a story about the apocalypse.

I don't know what's coming and I get a vertiginous feeling sometimes because of that. I am still pretty sure there's a ceiling but we haven't reached it and what we can do already makes me feel like someone accustomed to Them New Model-T Fords seeing a modern electric car.

A return gig. Thanks Jon Anderson and the Band Geeks - well worth the trip to Manchester.

My goodness the Opera theatre has vertiginous seating.

Vertiginous Golf on steam is a fun indie one with an interesting aesthetic and even a story, maybe a little rough on the edges but I think you'll appreciate it for what it is

Dangerous Golf seems fun, cant get it to run on my pc lol

Given that a pivotal point in the early development of my musical appreciation was when my mum allowed me to stay up for TOTP when Bohemian Rhapsody was number 1...*teeters over vertiginous chasm of passing time*
Getting to know my new students and I asked when was it they first fell in love with music.

One chap was like, “When my mum took me to see Bohemian Rhapsody as a child”

“That space of vertiginous contingency and mirage-like ambiguity is the true province of de Kooning’s art and can be uniquely accessed through his thousands of extant sketches, tracings, and collages.” —Jarrett Earnest
De Kooning Draws a Picture | Jarrett Earnest
Willem de Kooning's works on paper document his efforts to find ways of retaining both image and abstraction, depth and flatness.

Solenoid by Mircea Cărtărescu

A dizzying Romanian novel where prose itself becomes the portal.

Found on the shelf at Richmond Public Library (British Columbia), @multcolib.bsky.social and Médiathèques de Perpignan Méditerranée (Résolu) when Leafle checked.
Solenoid by Mircea Cărtărescu
Mircea Cărtărescu's *Solenoid* spins from a Bucharest schoolteacher's diary into the architecture of consciousness itself. Sean Cotter's translation carries Cărtărescu's vertiginous, image-dense Romanian into English without smoothing its strangeness. Readers drawn to philosophical novels that fold dream, memoir and speculative cosmology together may find it an overwhelming, unforgettable read.

Vertiginous's Lo-Fi and Low-Poly Sci-fi Existentialism is about as on brand as a director like Quentin Dupieux gets, which is to say the man is impossible to second guess.

Always love/hate leaning over the stairwell at the Baltic and experiencing Mark Wallinger's Heaven and Hell, in which he turns the stairwell into an endless vertiginous horror with the use of two mirrors at top and bottom.

Also, PSA: Hal Hartley's Amateur showing at the gallery on 10 October!

The spectacular view of Elgin Cathedral, the "Lantern of the North", from the top of its vertiginous north tower. A church was first built here in the 1200s and despite major setbacks the cathedral thrived until the Reformation of 1560. More pics and info: www.undiscoveredscot...
