#erosion
And then you just get into this pattern of steady erosion, though notice that 'erosion' begins from a position that is already *bad* - *most* Americans soured on Trump in the first three months.

Then you're slowly peeling off hard cases, bit by bit, month by month.

Thailand's Hin Sam Wan, or Three Whale Rock, is a 75-million-year-old sandstone formation in Phu Sing Forest Park shaped by erosion to resemble a whale family overlooking the Mekong River.

Experts have long warned that immigration dragnets and the erosion of civil rights for immigrants will inevitably result in the erosion of rights for American citizens.

People are dunking on this as a glimpse into Trump's personal pathologies, but it also indicts the New Right more broadly. We're constantly told right-populism is a reaction to liberalism's erosion of "social cohesion," but this shows MAGA actually hates solidarity (across racial lines).

I think a lot of pundits want it to be gas prices and gas prices only because they are uncomfortable with the idea that (white) Americans might also be angry about corruption, concentration camps, the erosion of democracy, etc.

And I think some of that slow erosion is, at the point where you're at 60/40 on approval, you're cutting into folks who are temperamentally very conservative and have some personal identification with the Red Team and it takes slow, steady pressure to get them to give that up.

There is something very late Soviet / early post-Soviet about the steady erosion of basic public services in the UK--and coming from the same root cause: crippling economic stagnation.

I'm a bit puzzled by these large declines in diversity in common species. Yes, there numbers have declined but losing 40% of species diversity in 20 generations would imply Ne's on the order of 10s.

That doesn't mean the old political order was just! But the erosion of its norms can remove constraints without replacing them with anything more democratic. Institutional disintegration is like is like half a bad trip all the time.

Deeply troubling erosion destroying homes, and so close to Sizewell
Four homes lost to the sea - 24 in the last six years and eight more condemned. As Suffolk's coastline crumbles, residents are asking whether offshore dredging could be worsening erosion. The industry denies any link – but are the risks fully understood?

What if the construction industry were complicit in the way the North Sea is eating our region? There is worrying evidence it might be

Coastal erosion is not just for storms either, IDC how sunny it is today. Don't stop directly under actively collapsing cliffs etc OMFGssss aaaaaaa

God I loathe people willing to spoil their votes because they didn’t get 100% of what they want, even amid democratic erosion.

Democracy is for grown-ups and no one is perfect. Elect the one whose broad political philosophy is aligned, then press them on your pet issue when they win. ‘Nuff said.

I want to add to this from the perspective of an author whose work someone might have “cited” via AI use. I’ve seen what AI summaries of my work look like and they’re garbage. The erosion of trust to scholarship—which is supposed to be a conversation w the sources one’s read—is field-annihilating.
So, you disclose yr AI use to a publisher. They decide it’s w/in the bounds of acceptability. Your manuscript is invited, peer reviewed, board approved, published—w/ your use now disclosed in your acknowledgments. All above board, it seems. But what do yr readers think? Colleagues? T&P committee?

These six observations point towards something much more profound than a simple criticism of contemporary society: the gradual erosion of the intellectual, moral and institutional conditions which a healthy civilisation depends. Think about it.

the slow steady erosion is MUCH BETTER for democracy as it represents a PERMANENT departure not spurred by any one-time decision or act (which can be easily backed off from or reversed).

steady erosion represents a constant stream of people finally realizing he is a liar and conman.

🐦 Common songbirds are losing genetic variety

Old and modern genomes of 62 songbird species in China show genetic loss averaging 43 to 49%. Common species fared worst, so being everywhere is no proof a bird is safe.

It’s very easy for me to say: don’t let GenAI write for you. Don’t let it peer review for you. There’s a world of variability beyond: “AI generated articles w/ fake citations are getting published!” What does the subtler erosion of author-reader trust look like? And how will it vary by discipline?
