That's interesting. My essays, which proved crucial I think, were on how to blend historical/normative work. Perhaps the right answers there were also Dewey and Emerson, though have a feeling I drew on Berlin and Tolstoy, plus my VeryShortIntroduction notions of Hegel and Popper.
