It’s stupider Vietnamization
Wait we're winding down the war by escalating it?

Fifth Tour (1969–70): This time with the 82nd Airborne, leading air assault operations during the Vietnamization phase. By now he’s the veteran NCO commanders rely on for high‑risk missions.Across all tours, he logged ~200 combat missions — an almost unheard‑of number. (cont)

Having students bounty hunt for potential errors in a study guide is hilarious.
"Vietnamization is not a word!"
"Yes, it is."
"OK, but Joneses is spelled wrong."
"No it's not."
"Wait, Stagflation isn't..."
"Yes it is."

The Nixon/Kissinger strategy for the war in Indochina was “Vietnamization,” spreading the war (more explicitly) into Cambodia and Laos. We’re now doing Espteinization all over American society

Yeah total bullshit like his asset think police action was tried in Korea and Vietnam along with vietnamization

Vietnamization! We love to say it, don't we folks? The Vietcong... well maybe they're not all bad. Very fine people on both sides

TLDR: Nixon administration extricated the US from the war in 73, under the Paris accords. Funding for US military operations in indochina ceased, but Congress still continued to fund the government in Saigon, to the bitter end. April 30 showed the failure of Nixon’s own policy of Vietnamization-

and total gut punch. Many of the ethnic Cambodians were badly mistreated and mistrusted when the RVN took over the program as Vietnamization gained traction. When Saigon fell, many were then slaughtered in the Cambodian killing fields and in the re-education camps.

Yeah. Rolling Thunder 2 stopped the Easter Offensive, but just barely. The "Vietnamization" of the war was in full swing by then, it was only a matter of time.
Iran is less winnable than Afghanistan, and no one has conquered either one. Iran's been a continuous culture for 2,600 years.

The Netanyahu government’s pursuit of “total victory” cannot mean endless war, permanent occupation and ever-expanding front lines. 1/2

Opinion | Israel's 'total victory' means endless war
Faced with failure, Israel has embraced Vietnamization – entrenching itself in newly occupied territories and calling it victory

In all seriousness, the Vietnam War really did materially change post-1968 from a low-level guerilla campaign into an actual conventional conflict. Vietnamization seemed to be working in the early 1970s, but the ARVN was simply not capable of standing up to the NVA's conventional strength.

#OTD On July 8, 1969, 814 soldiers from the U.S. 9th Infantry Division left Saigon in the first Vietnam War troop withdrawal. This step initiated President Nixon's phased Vietnamization strategy to hand over combat duties to South Vietnam.

Or more accurately there were no legiitmate "peace deal" on the table without the US consulting with the RoV. Some peace "feelers" were put through in the process of Vietnamization, but nothing concrete.

"Mowing the lawn" has become a predominant US military strategy since the days of discussing how we could implement "Vietnamization."

It's nice to see it's still in front pages of Pentagon binders.

First, let’s not generalize entire countries. While some people saw Calley as a hero, more saw him as a scapegoat to protect his superiors. The case reinvigorated the antiwar movement, which had been in the doldrums due to Vietnamization.

"Vietnamization"
Trump announces he that he is going to extend the ceasefire for an undetermined amount of time, seemingly giving the Islamic Republic as much time as it needs, even though it wasn’t asking for it and the stalemate was due to its unwillingness to move off its non-negotiables.

Is this winning?
1. BREAKING

President Trump says there will be no military action against Iran and the Islamic Republic due to the intercession of Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff, Asim Munir.

But they had a huge impact on Presidential politics in 68 and 72; definitely had an impact on Nixon and the public for years after and continued through 1971 after which withdrawals and Vietnamization was already happening.

Nixon's "Vietnamization" speech, Nov 3, 1969: "I have initiated a plan which will end this war in a way that will bring us closer to that great goal to which Woodrow Wilson and every American President in our history has been dedicated, the goal of a just and lasting peace."

It's actually less popular than the Vietnam War was in 1971... Which was around when Nixon was withdrawing ground troops in his Vietnamization push 😅
