The internet tells me this is White Swallow Wort, Vincetoxicum hirundinaria. I see that the bees, beetles and butterflies seem to like it.

This flower smells like dying ants, and flies can’t resist it
Vincetoxicum nakaianum tricks flies into pollinating it by imitating the smell of ants attacked by spiders. Ko Mochizuki stumbled upon this finding when he noticed flies clustering around the flowers ...

For the #SciArtSeptember theme “strangling” my gel plate prints of Vincetoxicum rossicum, also known as European swallowwort, or Dog-strangling Vine. Introduced to the northeastern US gardens in the mid-1800s, it’s become wildly invasive in south and central Ontario. 🧪🐡🌿

A dangerous suggestion. Exotic plants may play nice for years or decades before taking off as troublesome invasives. Black swallowwort (Vincetoxicum nigrum)in the Northeast is an example.

I suspect I post Vincetoxicum hirundinaria too often but it does earn its keep in the garden. October sees this glorious golden yellow foliage before the leaves drop.

For #insertAnInvert a print about how monarch butterflies who are fooled into laying eggs on the invasive dog-strangling vine (European swallowwort, Vincetoxicum rossicum) due to its similarities to its host plant milkweed are cursed to hatch larvae which starve and die. 🐡🧪Dog-strangling vine 🧵

Has anyone had success at defeating Dog-strangling Vine (Vincetoxicum rossicum) through repeated mowing? Digging them up by the roots is hard work.

This print is my response to seeing invasive dog-strangling vine (European swallowwort, Vincetoxicum rossicum) popping up all over my neighbourhood. 🐡🧪 Not only do these plants create dense stands that outcompete native plants but they threaten the monarch butterfly which depends on milkweed 🦋🧵1/
