Y'all need to use Voiceink for voice dictation.
It's fast, 100% local, open source, compilable from the GitHub repo, and no subscription fee. Replaced Wisprflow with it and it's just as fast and accurate.

VoiceInk. It allows you to download a few different open local models. I'm frankly shocked at how well it works with respect to tech vocabulary and even punctuation.

If you do care about this, there are local models now that are insanely fast and accurate. I use a model called “Parakeet” with the VoiceInk app on my Mac and I’ve never felt the need to use any of the supposedly better hosted models.

I think I've unlocked my first local LLM use case, and it's to clean up the output of a voice recognition model — my MacBook runs Whisper Large V3 quantized, and then it sends the output to my Mac Studio, which cleans it up with Qwen3 4B.
It's not as fast as Cerebras, but you know... It's local 😭

Great recommendations.
I can +1 on VoiceInk. The accuracy over anything else I’ve used is significant.
Then use a Yeti Blue desk microphone. It’s directional - so doesn’t pick up anything coming out of my monitor speakers, so great for calls as well as dictation.

I _actually_ said that to Claude in a moment of weakness yesterday. See, I was trying out speech-to-text as a way of working and the whole emotional dynamic is different. I lost my cool a couple times. "THAT'S WHAT I'M PAYING FOR." Fun fact: VoiceInk will go all-caps if you shout loud enough.

I've been playing with VoiceInk all morning and I got to admit it's pretty cool. tryvoiceink.com It's all local and lightning fast and somehow it sips RAM despite having to run like a one gigabyte voice to text model. (Not a paid endorsement.)
