One of the things about WHWF, as much as it a bunch of middle-aged men talking about The War In A Field, is that in my experience it is a place where the supermajority of attendees do not regard the 1940s as a particularly nice time to exist in for a multitude of reasons
Not your particular point I'm aware - but the nostalgia for the 1940s, a decade in which civilians were killed every night for several years is really weird

Surreal few days. I had the pleasure of speaking at the Fringe WHWF, followed by running around a media tech conference in Amsterdam. My body is waiting for my brain to catch up!

As someone who's been to WHWF, I agree that the podcast and the talks by the 'main lads' are very bloke-y...I didn't like it at all. However! I did like all the other talks, the community of people and the activities.
I say just go, and don't attend the 'bloke-y' talks. :)

As a public-facing historian, I'm super proud of the work (not always publicly visible) at WHWF to represent diverse interests, speakers, etc, and to generally be an incredibly welcoming and accepting event.
