144011 just after arriving from Hull with the stopping service

This was the last time I drove 144011 before it was retired to the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway where it now wears a rather fetching original WYPTE Metro livery

Nodding donkey problems in Leeds! WYPTE Green and cream liveried class 141 gets dragged back to Neville Hill for attention by 47200. The days when recovery of failed trains was an absolute doddle!

144010 Pauses at Menston station on the Wharfedale line with a service from Ilkley to Leeds. Prior to electrification in 1994, this was a bit of Pacer stronghold. The route now primarily operated by the class 333.

On this day, 4th February 2008, both sporting the WYPTE/Northern red and silver livery, BREL/Alexander Pacer Class 144, 144007 and CAF/Siemens Class 333, 333005 stand in the winter sunshine at Leeds.

I sort of get it, but I do have to admit that cash on buses was one thing I never liked: having to make sure I had enough on me, worrying if the driver would change a £5 note for a 40p fare. I’ve always early adopted cashless modes on buses: WYPTE Saverstrips, TfL Saver Tickets, Oyster cards…

British Rail West Riding - to get you out and about : eight of the pocket sized train timetables issued 1973 - 75 with the pre-WYPTE/Metro branding, line names but using the wider county's white rose symbol. Quite a 'family' feel. #yorkshire #railways #graphicdesign @doublearrow64.bsky.social

Well, Metro was the brand name for WYPTE from 74 on and then WYCA.

Maybe they needed a switch because the rising use of metro to mean mass transit would remind people that there isn't any here.

My own preference would be to call it
West Yorkshire Public Transport Network. It's snappy.

They changed to orange and white when the municipal companies were amalgated to SELNEC.

In the same way, the West Yorkshire liveries such as Bradford's blue and white and the green and yellow of Halifax went into WYPTE green and white.

*technically I've been in them, WYPTE take a dim view of people riding on the bus/train roof

have you ever noticed how the WYPTE uses the same typeface as the NHS

#9-series - No.25, Class 321/9
Given a /9 sub-class because they were funded by WYPTE rather than BR, these three all-standard class units were bought for use on Doncaster-Leeds services. Very smart in their original livery but less and less so in various later liveries, as seen here.

if you see this, post a vehicle

of course, a rail vehicle is a vehicle

#9-series - No.17, Class 158/9 (1st use)
The WYPTE-owned Class 158s were given the /9 subclass to reflect their non-BR ownership. Spitefully, the DfT later forced their sell-off in return for central government investment in the Leeds Rail Growth Package.

143623 is in Provincial livery

144004 also seems to be in Provincial

And then it's just 144011, which as we know is in WYPTE colours.

Everything else is Northern/GWR/ATW livery (delete as appropriate) or something entirely different (like the single car of 144001 at Huddersfield)

The Dewsbury Bus Museum open day on 22 March was a day for preservation debuts! No fewer than three vehicles made their first public appearance since being preserved, and for at least two of these it will probably be their last public outing in their previous liveries.

I don't know about the other PTEs but WYPTE managed to arrest the decline between 82-84. Adding around 9 million journeys across the bus and rail network.

It doesn't validate a counterfactual where Leeds now has an underground system, but a decade of work did bear some fruit.

I used to love that WYPTE livery.

10pm on a Saturday, August 2000

A view from the footbridge as a WYPTE 158 rolls in on a delayed Cleethorpes to Manchester Airport service.

60046 on a very delayed 6D71 Leeds to Lindsey Refinery empty tanks pauses for a much needed crew change.

EWS 60053 on iron ore empties from Scunny.

I will add though; it was at WYCA / WYPTE that it was my first proper full job from leaving Sixth Form for 16 years - during what was to become the twilight years …

Sneaky!! Its on hire to either WYPTE or the local NBC subsiduary. Location is probably Bradford??

I'm not from Sheffield, but Leeds. The early scene with a West Riding WYPTE bus gave me conniptions.
