3. #WakeUpDeadMan is the best murder mystery of its kind ever committed to film. The twists and turns are marbled with astonishing character work, and its examination of faith (or the lack thereof) elevate it above a mere genre exercise. Even Benoit Blanc gets a little bit of growth.

Consistency like Rian Johnson’s in his KNIVES OUT films is hard to to come by. I’m having a hard time thinking of any trilogy where all three films are legitimately as good as each other. But with WAKE UP DEAD MAN, Johnson’s done it. (1/6)

I saw it twice in theaters, but you better believe I turned on #WakeUpDeadMan last night. @rianjohnson.bsky.social continues to make these mysteries incredibly entertaining, paced beautifully, and now adds an element of introspection that comes across in the ensemble’s performances.

The thing about #WakeUpDeadMan is that it shows if Rian Johnson ever chooses to do a full blown horror movie, we will, all of us, be rendered inferior artists in comparison.
